Mark Zuckerberg’s meandering keynote at SXSW was fairly short on details. But he did drop a few:
In the next several months, users will be able to bring their non-fungible tokens to Instagram, the Meta Platforms’ founder and CEO said via video livestream to the festival on Tuesday. Zuckerberg added that users will also eventually be able to mint their NFTs, or publish a digital image onto the blockchain, within Instagram—but did not specify when.
The comments follow hints that Instagram would soon incorporate NFTs, which have been pervasive on Twitter for the past year. In an interview with The Information in May last year, Instagram head Adam Mosseri noted that “for NFT artists, Instagram is often the platform of choice to showcase their work.”
