Here’s a simple but smart idea I heard about last week: Ask all your employees to use AI for every possible task for a week and see what tasks it’s useful or not useful for.
That suggestion came from Rebecca Hinds, head of Asana’s Work Innovation Lab, at our annual Women in Tech, Media and Finance conference, during a discussion on generative AI and hybrid work.
Her statement might sound obvious at first, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard examples of companies shoehorning AI into internal use cases without thinking about whether it’s making people more productive overall. One example I heard over lunch: Federal contractors using large-language models to fill out requests for proposals. Turns out ChatGPT isn’t great at being concise, and the answers were so long-winded and confusing that the proposal evaluators then had to create their own AI models to understand the AI-generated answers!
