Meta Platforms’ second annual Gaming Showcase for the Quest today may have eased off on the company’s metaverse talk, but it also left VR gamers with little to get excited about. Just as with last year’s showcase, the event’s lineup was still quite small compared to the similar, jam-packed shows that Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony put on every few months.
The show was also distinctly heavy on familiar names: over half of the games Meta featured are either sequels to earlier VR titles or, like the previously announced Among Us VR and Cities: VR, are a leap to VR by established franchises. All in all, that translates to a show that was short on surprises, something Meta should avoid at its next showcase or at Connect later this year.
