Katy Perry, ChatGPT Vacations and an Enthusiastic Return to Office: Inside The Information’s WTF Conference

“There’s been 10 years of women that are championing other women,” singer-songwriter Katy Perry said to The Information CEO Jessica Lessin and a crowd of 232 women at The Estate Yountville in Napa Valley, Calif. “The positive of social media is that it took the gatekeeper away.…It’s up to you to become that entrepreneur that you want to wanna be.”

Perry was the headlining speaker at The Information’s Women in Tech, Media and Finance conference this Wednesday and Thursday, joining other notable attendees including vice chair of Bezos Earth Fund Lauren Sánchez, journalist Kara Swisher, founder and general partner of Trust Fund Sophia Amoruso, former Twitter manager Esther Crawford, and Erin and Sara Foster, co-founders of clothing line Favorite Daughter and managing partners of Oversubscribed Ventures.

Perry’s conversation with Lessin was wide-ranging—she spoke about social media criticism, her own entrepreneurial pursuits with her nonalcoholic beverage company De Soi and shoe brand Katy Perry Collections, and her personal investing decisions. But she said all her projects revolve around one principle: “It is about storytelling. You gotta tell your story about your product; you gotta tell your story about your mission.”
