TikTok is likely to reveal more about its gaming ambitions when it holds its first gaming event online on Wednesday. During that event, titled “TikTok Made Me Play It,” TikTok may announce a new gaming tab, which will feature in-app games, as the Financial Times reported. The app could also introduce gaming features that would increase its rivalry with Twitch and YouTube, the top two streaming sites for gamers.
Creators have already found ways to use the app to produce gaming videos. The most popular way is by picking short clips from existing livestreams and posting them on TikTok. Some creators also use TikTok to supplement their streams and make tangential gaming content, like reaction videos or comedy skits. There are at least 187.7 billion short videos related to gaming on TikTok, according to the “Gaming” Discover page on the app.
