Just shy of a year ago, Snap unveiled its developer-only AR Spectacles. Today’s annual Partner Summit demonstrated Snap’s doggedness to keep shipping new features and products, showcasing a slew of announcements focused mainly on mobile AR and shopping. The event was light on updates regarding the Spectacles but CTO and co-founder Bobby Murphy told Reality Check that Snap sees all the development it does involving AR and camera tech (even its newly announced camera drone) as building to a future where AR glasses play a central role in our lives.
“The ways that we're evolving AR rendering, the quality of experiences, and even just the partner use case exploration around commerce—and the ways that we're seeing innovation through Camera Kit—I would say all of this kind of ladders up to a growing momentum and really interesting new use cases emerging in AR that are helping guide the work that we're doing in wearable,” Murphy said.
