Tech’s 4-Day Workweek Revolution

In their desperate efforts to retain workers, tech companies have tried offering remote work options. They’re raising cash pay and offering stock sweeteners. Some have even gone so far as to roll out four-day workweeks, which may be the most radical move of all.

One-click–checkout startup Bolt and software firm Wildbit are among an array of companies that are now offering four-day workweeks on a permanent basis. Some companies have found it has an immediate impact on retention. Online used-apparel seller ThredUp, for instance, piloted a four-day workweek for its corporate staff last year and saw turnover fall to 5% versus 11% in 2019, CEO James Reinhart said in an interview.

“I anticipate the four-day workweek staying forever,” Reinhart said.
