We can look forward to more details about Facebook’s AR/VR and metaverse efforts now that the company plans to report its Facebook Reality Labs unit as its own segment starting in the fourth quarter. After years of Facebook not disclosing headset sales figures and with only a handful of cherry-picked statistics to champion the strength of Oculus’ VR games store, we’ll finally have an idea of how the company is doing in VR.
This might have an impact on what Facebook discloses at Thursday’s Connect. Facebook could announce a sales milestone for the Quest 2 or for its Ray-Ban Stories glasses there (anything to distract from the deluge of “Facebook Papers” stories, perhaps). But it’s possible the company will instead wait until the holiday hardwares sales numbers are tallied, then dump an avalanche of stats on investors and analysts at the beginning of next year.
